PHOTOS: MATA Spotlights Residents on the Move & WCS Community Champions

On March 7, 2022, the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) hosted a press conference to announce recent innovations to its service offerings and its ongoing commitment to improving service access for residents.

Whole Child Strategies and Residents on the Move were spotlighted as part of MATA's commitment to ensure all areas of the city have access to public transportation. WCS Executive Director Natalie McKinney spoke at the event to celebrate the partnership and several of our Community Champions were honored guests.

The initiative was launched in 2021 after years of advocacy by Klondike and Smokey City residents for more transportation and healthy food options in their community. The partners initially offered KSC residents free bus rides two days a week — Tuesdays and Saturdays — to the Downtown Farmer’s Market, Cash Saver, and Catholic Charities. Since we launched, more than 1,800 people have used the program, according to MATA estimates.

We thank MATA for its partnership with Whole Child Strategies that makes Residents on the Move happen!
